In this message we are wrapping up Colossians Chapter 3 which deals with rules for Godly living. We look into walking in GRACE vs living under LAW then we look at Marriage - what is a healthy, Godly marriage? After listing all the do's and don'ts and the rules for Godly living we then learn something very surprising...we are not even supposed to try to do any of it. These rules and lists are just a shadow of things to come...the REALITY is Jesus, Himself. Our job is not to do but to die and allow what He has already DONE to take hold in our lives as we learn to REST in HIS finished work. When we REST He takes care of the REST!

7-14-20 Body Life Service

A unique service at Garfield Community Church, one in which we went completely "off script" and allowed the Spirit to lead us in wonderful ways. In this time of "body life" we enjoyed the powerful ministry of the body of Christ ministering one to another. It was quite a blessing and to those attending, there was a very real sense of the Lord's power and presence. I am sure this is only the beginning of greater things to come.

6-16-19 FATHER'S DAY

This Father's Day we looked at the fact that Dad's are absolutely significant and yet a lot of dads were simply absent or not very good images of our Father in Heaven. So how do you find help in such a situation if your dad was not so good or if you were not such a good dad? Be of good cheer, Jesus has already made provision for both situations. He has already brought healing, forgiveness and love into difficult and broken situations.

6-9-19 Colossians 3 Set you mind on things above.

Continuing in our study of the book of Colossians, we pick up at the beginning of chapter 3. In the midst of all that is going on in the world of the Colossian believers, they are encouraged to set their minds on things above rather than all the distractions they are facing here on earth. In like manner believers today will do well to keep their focus on Christ rather than the distractions that so easily entangle us such as false religious ideas, politics, wealth, and the like.

5-5-19 Acts 2:42 13 Marks of a Healthy Church - Communion Service

Why do we "go to church"? When we look at the beginning of the church in Acts 2 we see that they did certain things daily and that the key to it all was true koinonia (fellowship) or "communion". In this teaching we see the connection between who we are and what we do. We discover that communion is the natural expression of a healthy church body. Pastor Mike points out thirteen marks of a healthy church from Acts 2:42. How healthy are you? Check it out.

Easter Morning Service at Garfield Community Church - The same power that raised Jesus from the grave is the SAME POWER that lives in us.

We use 4 videos and a song to set the stage for this Easter celebration. Beginning with "Watch The Lamb" by Ray Boltz we get a close up and personal look at the crucifixion from the point of view of the man forced to carry the cross. Then we see things from the perspective of on of the thieves who were also crucified along with Jesus in the video "Too Small A Price" by Don Francisco. Mike sings "He's Alive" by Don Francisco and then we focus on the incredible reality that the same power of the resurrection lives in us, Christians, as expressed in two different videos, one by Jeremy Camp entitled, "Same Power" and one by Michael W. Smith called, "The Same Power".

These all work together to tell the Easter Story in a powerful compelling fashion that ultimately ends up with triumph and encouragement as we come to the realization that that same resurrection power lives in us, the church, His people. I hope you enjoy this presentation and that it spurs you on to walk boldly in your resurrection identity. Happy Easter, Happy Resurrection life in Christ. Now, Go Play!

This Easter I had the joy and honor of sharing a message at the Sunrise Service in Estacada, Oregon. I talked about the resurrection as Jesus's opportunity to prove that what He said was true: He is the Son of God, He did overcome sin, He did overcome Satan and He did overcome death...He IS who He said He was and that means that He has the right, the power, and the authority to forgive sin, and grant new life to those who receive His offer of salvation, new live, freedom and transformation...but that is not all...He also has planted in us that same power that raised Christ from the dead. That same power - the resurrection power of God - lives in us!

Colossians chapter 2 in one lesson (two parts) - The 10 Myths of Religion: And the TRUTH that will set you free! This teaching is borrowed from Dr. Andrew Farley - "The Naked Gospel" a book we all can benefit from.

The simple Gospel of GRACE has been turned upside down by religion and years of "spiritual abuse" by church leaders. What do I mean? Well, when church leaders and teachers do not teach the Word rightly it only leads to bondage, disappointment and disconnection from God and the Body of Christ. God's people are left with a "do-it-yourself" morality club rather than a finished work of Christ. Rather than freedom and new life in Christ, we are left with legalism, spiritual oppression and bondage - "Spiritual Abuse" - and the enemy loves it.

Hopefully this teaching will help shed some light on some very dark corners of the teachings of the church today. So get out your flashlight and let's go light up those dark places with the light of God's word..."know the TRUTH, and the truth will set you FREE!" Amen!

As a man thinks...so is he. So what are you thinking? How do you think of yourself? What do you think of God? Whatever you are thinking will determine the tenor of your life. Here we take a deeper look into Colossians 1:9-14 where we are told that we are loved, redeemed, saved and forgiven...not because of our great behavior but because of Christ's behavior...his "finished work" on the cross. He is the Axis of our life and we are His poetry.

3-17-19 Faith, Hope and Love - The Gospel must be "True" and "Understood"

Pastor Mike Filippi continues his teaching in the book of Colossians. We are in the "introduction" phase of the book as we get acquainted with the theme and the purpose of the teaching. In this lesson we learn about Faith, Hope and Love...Faith and Love "spring from" Hope. What are biblical definitions of these terms? We find that the kind of Christianity that produces fruit (Faith, Hope and Love) will only come from knowing the "true Gospel" - nothing less will do. Unless the Gospel is "understood" it will not have the kind of impact it is designed to have. It will simply be lifeless, fruitless and powerless - religion.
